Don't look now!

This is something I call the "Don't Look Now!" effect. What is that you say?

Well, let's say you're sitting with your friend and you see something that you don't see everyday. But you're situated in a way that it's not in your friend's line of sight. So, you say something like this, "Don't look now, but there's a lady walking around with no shoes!" And your friend does something like this. "What, Really?" Starts to yawn, lifting her hands over head and turning her body towards the lady with no shoes, in super sloooow motion.

Now, this isn't just something that this particular friend does. This is what, EVERYBODY does. Try it! They'll do some awkward motion that doesn't even make sense, (like turning while yawning, who would do that?!) in slow motion. Like doing the awkward motion isn't weird enough, they'll do it with unnatural timing. yeah, embarassing.

If someone turned around and said to me, don't look now. I'd think of something slick... actually, I'm probably guilty of the super slow motion effect too.

revolutions and maxi dresses

Have you ever had to pretend like you knew what somebody was talking about so you wouldn't look dumb? Well, I have and today, I got called out! Usually, it goes down like this.

Friend 1: Remember 1997, when all the teachers went on this HUGE strike?
Friend 2: Oh yeah, Mike Harris and his dumb "common sense revolution", he like cut a million jobs and everyone was super pissed.
Me: Yeah, I remember! (when really, i had no idea what a common sense revolution was and googled it upon arriving home)

In most cases, I slide under the radar and never get called out. But today, I was shopping with a friend and this is a verbatim log of what happened.

Friend: Oh, I totally forgot! I wanted to buy this maxi dress from H&M. I have like two weddings to go to, even though its $70, it's worth it.
Me: (not knowing what a "maxi" dress is) Oh yeah? What does it look like?
Friend: blah blah blah
Me: (trying to figure out what the hell a maxi dress can be by looking at her outlining what the dress looks like)
Friend: Do you like maxi dresses, jes?
Me: (W-T-F, EFF YOU BIOTCH) Oh... nooo not really.
Friend: WHY NOT?
Me: Oh, they just don't look good on me.
(quickly walks away)

I should have just asked her what a maxi dress was. I could have learned something new today, but it's just my damn pride. I can't let someone know more than me. HAHA It gets the best of me sometimes. So friend, if you are reading this, what's a maxi dress?! lol :P

bad memory?

I'm going to be honest with you. My Morning Paper's inspiration lasted a whole of one day. Literally, I only have three pages written down, which computes to one day. So, fine. Writing 3 pages of nothingness in the morning is not my thing. (I usually try to squeeze in every last minute of sleep I can get before being late, which is never enough time for me to be ON time)

If morning papers didn't work, what's another way I can try to better myself? Well... over the weekend, I was making plans with my boyfriend for our one year anniversary. I suddenly remembered that I had free movie tickets from my boss, (we are a frugal couple, so don't judge haha) so I suggested we go see Shutter Island (I heard that's a great movie btw). Excitedly, I reach into my wallet to find that they aren't there. I reach hard into the deep recesses of my brain, and finally come to the conclusion that I must have given them to my boyfriend for safe keeping, as I tend to forget and lose things. My boyfriend, who is a very, I don't know what the word is here, but he's very meticulous, and is very detailed oriented, says I never gave it to him. So after hearing a lecture from him the entire night about how I was forgetful and not careful, I go home to look for the tickets. I check my vanity, my desk, my night stand, my other wallets, and nothing. I scan the room, and my eyes lay on my garbage can. Aha! Maybe my dad threw them out while vaccuming the room, I check the garbage can and amongst many reciepts I find them! and FINALLY, it comes to me. I was cleaning out my wallet before my vacation, and must have threw them out without checking the pile of receipts carefully.

Not only did I almost throw away my movie tickets, but that same week, I bought the same textbook TWICE. yeah, that's right.

Well, here's where I'm going with that long story. Since I do have a bad memory, as the above situation is not a unique one, I am going to try and improve my memory. Here's what I got from google.

This was the first link I got -  http://pmemory.com/how-it-works/?id=A100008&gclid=CIWu_savmaACFag65QodPGZneA

Now, this website has a list of these historical dates, mathematical equations, and Japanese that can all be memorized after 23 lessons! Wow! If I can memorize all of that material, I'll be impressed! I'll never forget a thing in my life, and won't have to hear my boyfriend's whining ever again!

So - how much is this going to cost me? $6.91 USD per lesson? and I need 23 lessons to improve my skills? I'm not good at math, but that's a lot of money for me to spend on my memory. I'd rather just keep my bad one.

:P

This one made me laugh!

Latte Addictions

So... at home, I must have a stack of 20 journals that have 2-3 pages of writing in them each. (I was thinking of taking a picture of them all and uploading them, but my inner-blogger is not ready for that step yet, so insert imagination here) I just can't help it! If i see a really cute journal, I have to have it.

I say, "YES! this one is it, this will be the one that I fill each and every page with my brilliant writings and prose." Some may call it an addiction, my boyfriend calls it money wasting, but I call it inspirations!!

Here is one that really caught my eye. At 5.99 each, I'll buy them all please :)

You can also pick one up here, at http://boldideas.bigcartel.com/ , or check out some of their other incredibly cute things

la manana llamas

I love the internet and all the great things that you can read on it. After reaching home from my horrible day, I decided I needed some inspiration, some daily dose of zenhabits, zenfitness, and I happened to stumble upon something called Morning Pages which is the brain child of Julia Cameron. You can check out this link to read more about it. (www.theartistsway.com) Morning Pages is a daily exercise where you fill out three pages of writing. You can write about anything, whatever you are thinking at that moment. This exercise is meant to release your creativity. It lets you off-load any worries, issues, things that may become a hindrance to your day.

When I was younger, many people have told me I was very creative, that I had great ideas. But as I have grown older, I feel as if I've lost that creativity. Lost it amongst the struggles of work and school, lost it amongst the ride that is life. Its sad that I have no creative outlet. When I see the people who write songs, poems, design clothing, I feel a big twang of jealousy, because I know I can do that too, because I want to be able to do those things too. Part of the reason why I opened up this account was so that I can find this creative outlet, this inner voice that used to be so loud.

So, I have decided to partake in this exercise of Morning Pages. Everyday for the next 12 weeks I will write three pages first thing I wake up. Maybe after emerging from this exercise, I will know who I am better, I'll be a song-writer, a poet, a novelist, or a painter.

We'll see... but I am kind of excited to wake up tomorrow morning.

Start date: February 22, 2010
End date: May 22, 2010 (my birthday... woo)

que deseen...

really wishing I could be there now.

Snowstorm, traffic, failure of an exam...
what a welcome back to real life. T___T

blog?

I would say its slightly stressful writing your first post on your first "blog". What do I write about? What's even a blog?

A blog (a contraction of the term "web log")[1] is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. (taken from wiki, my fav)

I don't know if my commentary and description of events would amuse or entertain anyone, but I'm starting this blog as my personal mission. I want to create my own voice on different issues, from different events in life. I want to have self-growth by "blogging", look inwardly on situations and problems that I experience in life.

I have lots of thoughts, mostly random that just come to me out of the blue. So... here we go.
